How to get to the Toronto Islands

Toronto Islands are a cluster of 15 individual islands in Lake Ontario, just off the shores of downtown Toronto. It’s also the largest urban car-free environment in North America! A 15-minute ferry ride from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal will take you there year round, although summer is when the Islands truly shine. Most of the 15 islands are connected to each other via paths and bridges, making it easy to walk or bike the 5 km (3 mi) from Ward’s Island in the east all the way to Hanlan’s Point in the west.

As a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, the Toronto Islands have seen crowds of 32,000+ people in a single day!

What to do on the Toronto Islands

The Toronto Islands have something for everyone, including sporting facilities (a huge disc golf course!), great swimming in Lake Ontario (we have some of the cleanest beaches in the world), canoeing and kayaking, a historic 200-year old lighthouse, large grassy fields for any activity you can imagine, a secluded retreat for artists, occasional concerts and festivals, and a quaint village of over 600 people who live on the island year-round.
